Geography. Nature. History. Science. Humanity. It’s all right there in your glass.
In 2016, I decided to begin formal wine education, and passed the Certified Specialist of Wine exam in January of 2017. With absolutely 0 experience in the wine industry, and not much of a varied experience in drinking wine, it was an ambitious endeavor. But, here’s the thing. The study of wine has taught me more about geography, history, chemistry, and culture, than I have everlearned before.
Perhaps the thing I love most about the subject of wine is that it is an endless study. There is always more to learn. You may get tired of learning about wine, but you will never get bored.
It seems that only when it comes to wine am I impulsive – having jumped on the CSW train without much thought – I similarly became licensed to import wine in 2019. I’m not sure that was as good of a decision as obtaining the CSW was. Since I’ve become licensed, there have been 25% tariff increases, a threat of 100% tariff increases, and a global pandemic. Not to mention, the business of wine is brutal. I’m hoping that whenever, we figure out our “new normal” I will be able to actually get some wine on a boat.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to explore, research, write, and hopefully educate in a fun and inspiring way. I hope you’ll join me on the journey. And please remember, when it comes to wine, if you are not having fun, then you are not doing right. If you find yourself in a situation where someone is making you feel bad about your wine choice, run away as fast you can! Who needs that? No one.
Cheers!
